Bishop Graham INGHAM (1851-1926)
1. Bishop Ernest Graham INGHAM (known as 'Graham'), son of Hon. Samuel Saltus INGHAM (1816-1900) and Margaret Richardson LEAYCRAFT (1821-1880), was born on 30 January 1851 in "Dudley", Paget, Bermuda. He was baptised on 14 May 1851 in Paget, Bermuda. He was a Clergyman, Bishop of Sierra Leone. He married Josephine KENT on 4 September 1877. He died on 9 April 1926 in Southampton, England.
Ernest Graham Ingham (30 January 1851 – 9 April 1926) was an eminent Anglican bishop and author living at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.
Ingham was born in Bermuda, the seventh child and third son of Samuel Saltus Ingham, Speaker of the House of Assembly of Bermuda.[1] He was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge[citation needed] — gaining his Cambridge Master of Arts (MA Cantab) —, and ordained in 1877. He was Organizing Secretary of the CMS for West Yorkshire [2] and then Vicar of St Matthew’s, Leeds [3] until his appointment to the episcopate as the fifth Bishop of Sierra Leone.[4] On returning to England he was Rector of Stoke-next-Guildford from 1897 to 1904, Home Secretary of the Church Missionary Society until 1912 and finally Vicar of St Jude’s, Southsea. At some point, he became a Doctor of Divinity (DD). He wrote the following books: Sierra Leone after a Hundred Years, 1894; From Japan to Jerusalem, 1911 (Publisher: London : Church Missionary Society); Sketches in Western Canada, 1913
It is quite possible that he married his niece Catherine Gladys Murray and Fiennes Wilson in Southampton?
